The work shows that GPE has temporal markers that are crucial in organising messages. The implication of these findings is that they contribute to studies in World Englishes, studies in pidgins/creoles and studies in temporality across languages. While preverbal markers like “go” and “dey” are used to accompany the bare form of the verb to realise present time, future time and progressive meaning. The research found out that the bare form of the verb is used to realise past time, present time and perfective meaning. The methodology comprised recordings of conversation of students at the University of Cape Coast and excerpts from television programs. The theoretical framework that served as a bedrock for the analysis was the superstrate and substrate theory. This research examined temporal markers in Ghanaian Pidgin English. Writing from his handle, Shatta said there’s nothing wrong with the President’s use of pidgin, and even encouraged him to go even further next time. In typical fashion as well, Shatta has hit back hard at those complaining. Like Presidents are not allowed to occasionally have fun. In typical fashion, Ghanaians immediately saw something wrong with the tweet, and flooded the President’s mentions with complaints about his use of pidgin.

“Happy birthday shattawalegh! You for come visit me for Flagstaff House o!” the official account of the President tweeted. The President’s official twitter account on Tuesday, October 17, which was Shatta’s birthday, tweeted out a birthday message to the ‘dancehall king’, which contained some pidgin English in it. Shatta Wale has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to abandon pidgin english and speak patois the next time he addresses him, so that Ghanaian can freak out even more.
